Meet The DJ – Grammy Nominated Booker T

Booker T – Grammy Nominated Producer/Remixer & DJ :-

Booker T is one of the UK’s most prolific and respected House music producers and DJs in the industry. 

He started DJing when he was 14, cutting his teeth spinning Reggae, Soul, Funk, Boogie, Hip Hop and Rare Grooves. Booker T honed his skills spinning in sound systems, school parties and the local youth centers in Brixton, South London. He was introduced to the sounds of Chicago & New York House music in the late 80s and in the early 90s. Booker T started his DJ career playing at infamous club nights such as Bobby & Steve’s Garage City while also headlining major UK House club’s nights like Back 2 Basics, Soul Heaven, Ministry of Sound, To the Manor Born, The End Club, Hard Times, and Club America (Wales). 

Since the early 90s Booker T has also produced music for several independent record labels. This would include Strictly Rhythm, Nervous, King Street, Slip N Slide and Big Beat. He has also remixed top recording artists for major record labels including Arista (Angie Stone, Monica), MCA Universal (Soul for Real, Kirk Franklin & Gods Property), Sony (Lemar) and Warner Music (Quincy Jones). He has also worked with London Records (FFRR) where his remix of “Never Ever” by All Saints went double Platinum. 

Booker T has also enjoyed considerable international success. He has DJ’d extensively around the world including headline sets in Italy, Switzerland, Sweden, Germany, Holland, Belgium, Greece. He also held residency at Es Paradis and Club Summum in Ibiza. These gigs and residencies allowed Booker T the opportunity to play alongside some legendary DJs. These would include Paul ‘Trouble’ Anderson, Jazz ‘n’ Groove, and Bobby & Steve Zoo. He has DJ’d in Singapore, Malaysia, and several US cities like Houston, Washington DC, Los Angeles, Miami, and San Francisco. 

In 2021, Booker T earned a Grammy Award nomination for Best Remix of the year. This prestigious nomination was awarded for his remix of “Back to Life” by Soul II Soul. He is currently writing and producing music for multi award winning artist Emeli Sandé. He is also working with Kathy Brown, Lee Wilson, Brian Lucus, DJ Spen, Earl W Green and Brutha Basil to release music on his own record label, Liquid Deep Recordings.
